Welcome to Blogs and Wiki's in the Classroom!

Take a minute to listen to my Voki - my avatar that I've created to help welcome you to this workshop. You will begin learning about 2 tools that are a part of the Web 2.0 movement. Web 2.0 sites are designed to be highly interactive for participants. They promote the sharing of ideas and communications.

Through this workshop you will learn about resources for creating free Blogs and Wikis for your own classroom. Please take a minute to blog (if you have never blogged before.) What have your experiences with blogs and or wiki's been prior to this workshop? What do you hope to learn?

My only experience has been at some district workshops where we reflected using blogs/wikis. I am very curious enough about them. I would love to find a way to integrate them into my own classroom!

Well, I've haven't blogged very much. I've read a couple of other people's blogs, but not left comments too often.

I did a little bit of searching this summer about what it might look like in the classroom, but haven't actually started yet.

I have had limited experience with blogs and wiki's. I hope to gain knowledge on how to create them so I can easily communicate with my parents.

Two summers ago I participated in the technology workshop where we explored wikis and blogs a little bit, but I haven't really had much experience with them since. I would like to explore different ways I can integrate wikis and blogs into my classroom, especially reading.

My experience with blogs and wikis is minimal, just exposure through our weekly tech meetings with our grade level team.

I am very excited about how to use wiki's and blogs. I think that I will use them frequently as centers during guided reading for my fifth graders!

I set up a classroom blog 2 years ago that I have not maintained, mainly because I have difficulty remembering how to access it, how to update it and how to get students involved in reading it.:( Wikis are a new term to me, but since I started taking this course I've discovered several teachers around me use it, so I have gone to their wikis to see how they are set up and used by both teacher and student. To be totally honest this is really overwhelming to me. There seems to be so much available it is difficulty to choose a starting point!

I like that avatar Voki thing, what fun. I have some blog experience on a personal Level with my own family blog here on blogspot.com. I LOVE it, I love the ablity to keep friend and family updated on what's going on with my baby girl, we've been blogging on this particular one since she shortly before she was born and she's 11 months now.

I look forward to using this information in my classroom as well. I think it will be especially helpful with my theater program.

I have used a blog when a friend was adopting a baby and wanted to share information with everyone. It was a great way to get updates without bugging their family. Other than that, I haven't had much experience, but I do see how it's a great way to share and receive information.
